A Kano Upper Shari’a Court in Gezawa Local Government Area (LGA) has ordered the remand of a man accused of threatening and intimidating his wife over allegation of witchcraft.
The prosecution said Sadiq Yusuf allegedly attempted to attack his wife, Saude Muntari, with a cutlass in Gawo village, Gezawa LGA, after accusing her of bewitching their son, who has been ill for an extended period.
Upon hearing the charges, Yusuf pleaded not guilty. Judge Nura Yusuf Ahmad ordered his remand until March 10, when the prosecution is expected to present its witnesses.
In a related case, a Shari’a Court in Danbare, Kumbotso LGA, arraigned two housewives for alleged criminal conspiracy and intimidation.

The defendants, Usaina Isa and Jamila Habibu, both residents of Rimin Auzinawa Quarters in Ungogo LGA, were accused of intimidating Murja Usman after blaming her for Jamila’s miscarriage.
When the police prosecutor, Inspector Bashir Wada, read the charges, both pleaded not guilty. Considering Jamila’s health condition as she recovers from the miscarriage, Khadi Munzali Idris Gwadabe granted them bail.
The case has been adjourned to April 16 for further proceedings.
