HYPPADEC distributes cash, relief materials to flood victims in Niger

The Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC) has distributed relief materials and N15 million cash to over 8,000 households affected by flood disasters in Niger State.

Flagging off the distribution in Ketso, Mokwa Local Government Area of the state, the commission’s Managing Director, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, said the distribution was going on simultaneously in all the six HYPPADEC member states in the country.

Represented by the Director of Operations, Ilyasu Abdullahi Wara, an engineer, Yelwa said the gesture was part of efforts by the commission to cushion the hardship flood disasters had brought to the affected communities.

Two community leaders, Idris Alhassan and Alhaji Mohammed Ketso appealed to the government to also come to their aid because schools in the communities had been shut down due to flood. The items distributed include 6,000 bags of rice, blankets, mosquito nets, soaps, detergent, bundles of zinc roofing sheets, mattresses and N15 cash among others.
