A suspect, Yusuf Akinleye, has said that he abandoned his job as a lorry driver last year when some of his friends introduced him to robbery as a lucrative means of making money.
Akinleye was among the suspects paraded by police in Osogbo, capital of Osun State for the robbery attack on the office of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) in Osogbo, Osun State capital.
The suspect told Daily Trust that he dumped his former job as a lorry driver and joined the robbery gang that specialised in robbing traders. He confessed that he was part of those that robbed the IBEDC office.
“We rob people when they finish sales for the day. We don’t kill people. We will only demand for the money and they will give us when they see gun. When we robbed the IBEDC, we got N280,000. I have not gotten my share from that money up till now. I have never killed anybody.”
“I only use my gun to scare them so that they will surrender the money and their phones and we will leave them. I was not really an armed robber. I was a trailer driver but my friends invited me to join them in the robbery business.”
The Commissioner of Police in the State, Mr Fimihan Adeoye said the suspects and other members of his gang would be prosecuted under the law after the completion of police investigations.
