The Technical Adviser of Doma United, Coach Najib Mabo, has said he masterminded his team’s victory against Mighty Jets to protect his jobIt was a sweet home coming for the young Mabo who led the “Savannah Tigers” to a crucial 1-0 victory at his former club Mighty Jets of Jos in the Nigeria National League (NNL) week 2 fixture on Saturday at the New Jos Township Stadium.

In Jos, the name Mabo is synonymous with Mighty Jets as Najib’s father, the late legendary Ismaila was a founding player who later led the club to historic victories as a coach.

Apart from that late Ismaila’s younger brother, Salisu Nakande Mamuwa, a former Nigerian international, also played for Mighty Jets.

He is currently the assistant General Manager of the club.

Interestingly, Najib like his dad, started his coaching career in Mighty Jets where he rose to the position of Technical Adviser before his switch to Doma United before the start of the current season.

In a chat with Daily Trust, Najib said the Matchday 2 victory against his former club came with so much emotion, saying he was both happy and sad for beating the club that means so much to him.

He, however, said it was necessary to beat Mighty Jets to not only protect his job but enhance his profile as one of the best young coaches in the Nigerian league.

“First I thank God for the victory against the historic Mighty Jets of Jos. Being the club from where I originated, I approached Jets with a lot of respect.

“On the other hand, I had to protect my job and integrity by winning the match. I am happy with the three points.

“Secondly, I thank the fans who came out in large numbers to support me after the victory against Mighty Jets,” he said.

Najib said the victory was special because winning on the road in the Nigerian league is never an easy task.

“I am very happy with the victory. Getting three points away in the abridged NNL is not a small achievement. I don’t know how to describe my happiness,” he said.

He also lauded the management, technical crew and players of Doma United on the important away win.

“Mighty Jets is a historic club in Nigerian football. That respect is still there. I will never disrespect Jets, but I have to improve my career.

“I want to thank the Chairman of Doma United, Alhaji Suleman Umar Mai-Doma for his unwavering commitment and support to the club.

“In addition, I share this happy moment with my players who put up a spirited fight for us to win the maximum points.

“My thanks also go to members of Doma United technical crew and the teeming supporters of the club who travelled down to Jos to cheer us to victory,” said Mabo.
