The Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN) has said that he has no legal impediment on the administration of oath.

There has been criticism of the AGF’s role in the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during which he administered the oath on the newly appointed caretaker committee chairman of the party and the Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni.

Analysts questioned his involvement in a political party activity, with a legal practitioner, Inibehe Effiong Esq describing it as “morally and professionally reprehensible.”

In a statement sent by his media aide, Dr Umar Gwandu yesterday, Malami said being a lawyer, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, notary public and a legal practitioner, he was well qualified to administer oaths.

He said the office of the AGF exercises dual functions which is inclusive of that of a Minister of Justice which is a political and advisory function, and administration of justice.
