The Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, has disclosed that he has no idea who foots the medical bill of the president.

He made the disclosure when he appeared on Channels TV talk show, Politics Today yesterday.

During the interview, which was anchored by Seun Okinbaloye, the presidential aide said details of how payments for President Buhari’s hospital bills are effected do not matter.

President Buhari has been away on medical vacation in the United Kingdom for treatment of an undisclosed ailment since May 7.

“We need to know, he is our president. He is a public official. This shouldn’t be masked in secrecy,” the TV presenter enquired from Adesina.

In response, Adesina said: “I do not know who is paying, but as a president, he has a right to be treated by the country.”

When asked specifically whether Nigeria is taking care of the bill, he said: “Most likely. I don’t not know for sure.”

Adesina, who was one of the delegations that met with President Buhari last weekend, affirmed that the president is “sharp, he was smart, he was plain.”

“But like I said in the statement we issued, he will come when his doctors say ‘it’s time to go home’,” he said.

It would be recalled that some civil society groups, under the aegis of Concerned Nigerians, have been staging protest since last week, demanding that President Buhari should return to Nigeria to assume his duty or resign.
