The lone female chairmanship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for February 21, 2026 election in Kuje area council, Hajiya Aishat Yakubu, says she has leadership qualities to pilot the affairs of the council.
Yakubu, a former speaker of Kuje area council, stated this when she addressed newsmen shortly after she submitted her expression of interest/nomination at the APC national secretariat in Abuja, on Wednesday.
She said since she had been able to lead the legislative arm of Kuje area council, and also as chairperson of the legislative arm of the six area councils of the FCT, she has gathered enough experience to provide the needed leadership.
She, however, regretted that, despite the fact that women were the major key players in politics, they are being sidelined and under re-presented.
“And looking at the constitutional amendment of the 2022 in Article 7, that women should be given equal opportunity like the men and people with disabilities, which is why I stand on that ground as a woman, I should be given that opportunity to serve the good people of my area council. And I have the capacity to deliver if the given the mandate she said.
The APC chairmanship aspirant, who said she has served the party for years, added that the time has come for the stakeholders to reciprocate by giving her the support so that the party would emerge victorious at the poll.
