The police in Edo State have arrested a cultist, Ekhator Ikpomwonsa (21), who was involved in a recent cult clash and other criminal activities in the state.

The suspect, who claims to be a member of Jurist confraternity, said he joined the cult group to avenge the death of his elder brother who was killed by a rival cult group in 2018.

The suspect was among 30 suspects paraded by the Edo State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Chidi Nwabuzor.

Ikpomwonsa further told newmen that, “But I am not involved in the renewed cult clashes in Benin metropolis. I have not killed anyone since I joined cultism in 2018.”

Another suspect, John Okafor, from Imo State, denied being a member of any cult group.

He said, “I am a Christian and I am not a cultist. I was arrested by the police at an Indomie joint while I was eating Indomie by 7pm.

“They didn’t allow us to explain; they just bundled us in their bus and took us to the station. They didn’t allow us to call anybody. I am surprised, they are parading me as a cultist.”
