A Level III student of Jigawa State College of Legal Studies said he killed his girlfriend on Saturday for refusing to abort a pregnancy.

The suspect, Nasiru Ismail, 22, admitted to being responsible for the pregnancy of Salamatu Garba, 22, of Kofar Gabas quarters in Jahun LGA.

Speaking to newsmen yesterday from the police cell, the suspect said he had been in relationship with his late girlfriend for over eight years with a view to consummate the relationship into marriage.

He said they attempted to abort the pregnancy when it was three months old but it was unsuccessful, adding that two months later he asked her for a second attempt which she refused.

He said when it occurred to him that the deceased was not ready for the second attempt, he decided to kill her in order to eliminate anything to do with her and the pregnancy.

“I took her to the outskirts of the town at around 9pm on a motorcycle that I borrowed from a friend. I cut her throat with a jack knife. She was four months pregnant for me and I decided to kill her for refusing to agree to an option for abortion,” he said.
