A 26-year-old carpenter, Shagbada Erigga, has confessed to the Oyo State Police Command that he killed his girlfriend, Happiness Winifred, over constant arguments whenever he wanted to have sex with her.

Erigga admitted he killed Winifred on Wednesday, June 24, 2020, out of frustration in the heat of their last argument over sex.

The suspect told journalists yesterday at a press briefing conducted by the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Nwachukwu Enwonwu, at the police headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan, that he dropped the remains of the lady inside a well in front of his residence.

He said, “After we had our bath on that fateful day, I asked her why we usually engaged in argument whenever I wanted to have sex with her. But she started raising her voice on me and I slapped her.

“She slapped me back and held on to my clothes, shouting I should kill her. In anger, I gave her three blows on the neck and hit her more. She fell and began writhing on the floor. I picked her up, threw her into the well in front of our house and locked our gate,” he narrated.

Enwonwu said Winifred’s body was discovered by a neighbour who had gone to draw water from the well and observed a human body was hindering the bucket from access to water.

The matter was then reported to the police.
