Fresh facts have emerged about a supposedly mad couple arrested on Monday under a bridge at the Cele Nicer bus stop area of Ojo, on the Mile 2-Badagry expressway, Lagos.

A member of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), which, together with policemen from the Ijanikin police station arrested the couple, disclosed that the woman claimed that she had always received messages from a voice inside her head directing her on who to kill.

The VGN member at the Isashi office of the group, Shola Kareem, said the woman, Folake Falade, said she was constantly hearing voices in her head telling her what to do.

Kareem said, “She confirmed that she and her two companions ate the flesh of their victims to purify them.”

A restaurant operator at Cele Nicer, Jimmy George, said that a third member of the gang was set ablaze by a mob.

The VGN member believed the number of  the couple’s victims could be more than 10, considering the heap of decomposing human flesh seen at the scene.

On how the couple was busted, George said that a man had sighted Falade carrying a bag that had blood stains on it.

He said it was the man who drew the attention of members of the VGN to the spectacle, and that when the crowd that had gathered searched the bag, they found some human parts in it.

“The woman threw away a phone she was holding, fuelling further suspicion. The police was invited, and when they combed under the bridge, they discovered more human parts, a bed, a mosquito net, mosquito coils, pots, plates and spoons,” he said.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Chike Oti, said the police had, on Monday August 27, 2018, received information that a woman, later identified as Folake Falade of Mosafejo-Ilogbo, Badagry, Lagos, was found inside a tunnel under the Cele Nicer bridge, Ijanikin, Lagos with decomposing human parts.

Oti said policemen searched the tunnel and arrested one Emmanuel Gbenga, believed to be an accomplice of the female suspect, while the third suspect, who escaped from the tunnel to avoid being arrested, was caught by an irate mob that set him ablaze. 

Condemning the mob action, the police spokesman said, “It is regrettable that despite the various town hall meetings the Lagos State Commissioner of Police had held to sensitise communities in the state to the evil of jungle justice, some people at Olorunshogo community constituted themselves into a mob and took laws into their hands by killing one of the suspects, who might have been useful in the ongoing investigation on the matter had they handed him over to the police.”
