Malam Mahammadu Lawal Sarkin Askan Bagoma from Kankara local government area of Katsina state, is a traditional barber popularly known as ‘Wanzam’ who made fortune providing hair cuts to pilgrims during this year’s hajj.

Sarkin Aska, in a chat with Kano Chronicle in Makkah said during Arafat day hundreds of pilgrims, most especially locals who preferred Wanzam services for their hair cuts, had patronized his hair cuts in which averagely he earned about N45,000 daily.

Sarkin Aska said the business was booming and rewarding in the holy land.

He said customers preferred his services because of his mastery of the trade noting that “I usually get over worked and tired and had to refer clients to the other barbers”.

“I was very tired on the Sallah Eid day, since morning till evening I was cutting and shaving clients, I had to run away to an undisclosed place and rest.

“I engaged someone to be arranging money for me that faithful day, because the customers were many.

I was charging 10 riyals (N1,000) per person. That very day was the peak, I shaved more than 100 persons and on that day alone I made fortune, I raked over N47,000, an amount more than what I could make throughout a year in Nigeria,” he said.

Sarkin Aska said to make such kind of money in Nigeria, it would be around the period when circumcision of male child takes place, that was time he usually send his eight children to various towns to render the services.

“I charge N50 or less in Nigeria, for barbing a head, but the trade is blessed, as I also make money providing traditional herbs to people, it is our secret, “ he said.

He said he got this knives after a long search in Makka shops and he had bought some for his children at home as souvenirs.

Sarkin Aska who said he smiled home with his bounties, was sponsored to Saudi Arabia for the just concluded Hajj exercise by his elder brother lawal Bagoma, also a traditional barber based in Cameroon republic.
