In a statement made available to journalists in Abuja, Ojudu lamented that a national daily (not Daily Trust) had erroneously reported him as saying that Senator Mark had last September asked them to support tenure elongation.
Ojudu who spoke at a function in Ibadan this week said the senate president had on September 16, 2014 said 2015 election was not on the table as Nigeria was at war with Boko Haram.
“What I said was that when we came back from last year’s summer break, the Senate President gave a speech where he said that left to him, the defeat of Boko Haram should be the nation’s priority now and not an election,” Ujudu said.
Meanwhile, the senate president yesterday denied reports that he had ever called for postponement of the 2015 elections.
In a statement issued by his spokesman Kola Ologbondiyan, Senator Mark said it was “undignifying” for anyone to insinuate that he ever said so.
“I have neither canvassed the postponement or deferment of 2015 elections nor has my body language ever suggested that,” the senate president said.
