As I was reading the newspapers last week, I came across some of the allegations of corrupt enrichments against some of the former chief executives of some of the troubled banks. I was pissed off with their activities, like the one alleging that Mrs Cecilia Ibru acquired properties abroad. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alleged that she had 20 properties in Dubai and another 18 in the United States.

 Furthermore, the EFCC alleged that the woman received billions of naira as rent per annum from the bank. It was also alleged that most of the buildings occupied by the Oceanic Bank belonged to her.  If these allegations can be proved by the anti-graft agency, it means the chief executives did disservice to their customers, and may be considered as having committed rape in the industry.

What baffles me is the fact that some of these embattled bank executives are seen as highly religious individuals. If the allegations against them are true, they may not have offended men alone. God will be disappointed in them.

In the same way, some governors go about getting anointing from supposed men of God, shrines and traditional rulers, believing that with that they are sure to win elections. Some even publicize praying for Nigeria and turn out to be the most media hyped. I do not want to believe that Nigeria is cursed. But God cannot come down to help us as He has given us the freedom to make or mar.  

The lifestyles of these corrupt persons continue to threaten our youths who are the future leaders. As the youths watch, they tend to look at the crooks as role models. I think, for Nigeria to move forward, we need a proper re-orientation of our people and, possibly, if the bad trend continues, a revolution, as many have advocated.
