An armed robbery suspect, Umaru Dankawu has informed police in Bauchi, that he got only N1, 275 as his share from the proceeds of an armed robbery operation carried out by members of his gang.
Dankawu, a suspected member of a five man armed robbery gang, was paraded by the police at the state command headquarters in Bauchi for robbing Muhammadu Gidado of Ganma village and Alhaji Muhammadu Sani of Chakwati village all in Shira local government of Bauchi State.
According to the police spokesperson, DSP Kamal Datti Abubakar, the suspect alongside other members of the gang which include; Sa’idu Ibrahim, Babangida Adamu, Hassan Umar and Mohammed Adamu robbed Muhammadu Gidado and Alhaji Muhammadu Sani of N60,000 and N4,575 respectively at their residences at different times.
He said that the suspects carried out the robbery operations armed with sticks and a locally made pistol.
Speaking to journalists, the suspect, Umaru Dankawu said that he “I got only N1,275 and some drugs as my share. We went to the man’s house (Alhaji Muhammadu Sani); we collected some money and some hard drugs because the man is selling drugs. I was given my share from the money and some drugs we collected from him.”
Another suspect who allegedly owns the locally made pistol, Sa’idu Ibrahim said that he got the weapon while on a hunting expedition in Adamawa state.
“I got the gun in Yola when I went there for hunting. I have been engaged in robbery. I was involved in the first operation which we robbed N60,000, three of us carried out that operation while two persons carried out the second operation,” he said.
