The suspect identified as  Raol Dedavi is now the most dangerous cross-border armed bandit since the arrest of the late Hamani Tidjani by the Nigerian Police.
Dedavi, 41, was arrested recently by policemen from the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Lagos State Police Command led by Superintendent of Police (SP) Abba Kyari.
The notorious cross border armed bandit was arrested along with three Nigerians, identified as Peter Adebayo, Aziza Akwaebu and Ekeocha Bright.
The three Nigerians were earlier arrested by policemen from Area H Police Command, Ogudu.
In his confessional statement, the suspect told Sunday Trust at the Command Headquarters, Ikeja, where he is currently being detained that he was actually lured to Seme Border, Badagry from where he was arrested by Kyari.
“When SARS arrested me last year, it was because of six stolen vehicles I received from Nigeria and sold in Cotonou. I have sold six stolen cars before SARS arrested me last year. One Alinca supplied me with the stolen cars. This Venza that led to my second arrest, I intended to sell it for N2million. I bought it N1.1million” he added.
The notorious armed robber further said: “Before SARS could arrest me at Seme, they tried all the tricks to make me leave the Benin part of the border to Seme but they did not succeed until they used my customers who unknown to me had been arrested to lure me under the pretext that he had a Legend Jeep for sale. That was how I was arrested at the Nigerian end of the border.”
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Kayode Aderanti, who confirmed the arrest, explained that the gang members are specialists in snatching of exotic cars from their owners at gunpoint in Lagos and adjourning states and moving same to neighbouring Republic of Benin where they are resold to unsuspecting members of the public.
According to him, most of their buyers are usually Nigerians who may have gone to Contonou, the capital of Benin Republic with genuine intention of buying cars.
