Casting your mind back to your undergraduate days, what were the things you would say you did right to get this far?
When I secured admission to the university, I set a goal for myself to be the best but I did not know if I would emerge the best graduating student.
Also, I remember that in the first convocation programme I witnessed, I said to myself that I would also like to be the one who will read the valedictory speech on behalf of my colleagues when I would be graduating.
In all honesty, I never knew how far I could go but I ensured that throughout my time as an undergraduate, I never missed out on any assignment or test for my class. I avoided participating in social events. For me, social events can be quite distractive, so I limited my participation in them. I made it a point of duty not to attend all social events outside the school but I did attend those ones organized within the school campus. You may say I was actually scared of attending those events but for me, it was all about being careful. More importantly too, I didn’t want to disappoint my parents.
First class graduates enjoy extensive reading, how best can you describe your reading habit?
Although I wouldn’t say I read every day but I know very well that when you share knowledge with other people, you tend to know that thing you desire to know, better. That was why I never said no anytime my colleagues came to ask me to teach them calculus, econometric, among other things. I gladly did that for them. The more I engaged in tutorial with them, the better I always became. So, I used the method of sharing knowledge to get better with my studies.
Which was your favorite class and why?
I know I am very good at mathematics. I love maths and I like doing anything calculation. But I really don’t like to deal with courses that involve taking more notes by hand. To me, taking notes are tiresome. I prefer working out calculations than reading bulky text books or notes.
What do you intend doing after graduation?
I am already planning to enroll for a Masters Degree programme after my National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme. And thereafter I’d like to work, preferably with the World Bank. But I recall that anytime I said this, my lecturer used to tell me that I will also need to be in the academia and have quite a number of publications before being eligible to work with such global financial institution.
How will you cope with teaching job?
I will certainly do my best to succeed. If I get good offers, I would be willing to teach.
What were the factors you considered before choosing Crescent University?
Well, I had difficulty getting admission to study at the University of Lagos (UNILAG). I remember I was offered admission to study Physiotherapy and Biology but I never loved those courses. I was eventually glad to have secured the admission here. I got to know of Crescent University from a friend. And I must say that I appreciate the fact that I eventually secured admission to the school because not until that admission, I wouldn’t have left a very bad habit of mine in the past. Before now, when I get to a new environment, I always do very well at the beginning but along the line, I may be distracted by something unusual but I thank God that this was not the case in the just concluded programme.
What was your project topic all about?
I wrote about impact of Federal Government financing on health career.
You said you had weak social ties in school; how about a relationship?
Yes. I have a boyfriend. He was a year ahead of me. He graduated last year.
Can you give a brief about your upbringing?
Well, I am the first of three children. My dad is a building contractor while my mum is a retired civil servant.
How about your early education?
I finished from Great Talents Nursery and Primary School Agege and Regal Memorial Baptist School Sabo Yaba, both of them in Lagos.
What will be your advice to undergraduate students in the school?
They need to be focused. They should not give room for unnecessary distraction and I’m sure all would be well.
