Senator, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, said he was excited to have received a salary of N54 per month as a teacher before he rose to become the governor of Sokoto State.
Senator Wamakko, who spoke to journalists, said he rose through the ranks to become a permanent secretary, deputy governor and governor but still has the passion in contributing to education.
“By background I am a teacher and still proud to be a teacher. I started my life career as scale-three teacher receiving N54 per month and I rose to become a headmaster, school supervisor, permanent secretary and so on. I became a deputy governor, governor and now senator.
“As a teacher, or I can say a principal, I believed that education is the best legacy that anybody can leave behind, for people now and years to come to benefit from.
“I do not only put model primary schools, I put in model secondary schools and five tertiary institutions in my eight years as governor and set up state university for the first time in Sokoto,” he said.
The senator revealed that, for his passion in education, he had sponsored over 200 students on scholarship to study various courses abroad.
