‘I shall appeal tribunal verdict’

The former chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the April 9, 2016 council polls in the area, Alhaji Abubakar Jibrin Giri, has said he would appeal the election tribunal verdict, which dismissed his petition.

The FCT election petition tribunal last Wednesday, dismissed the petition of the APC candidate for lack of merit and upheld the election of the incumbent chairman of the council, Alhaji Adamu Mustapha, of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) as the duly elected chairman of the council in the April 9, 2016 polls.

Giri, who was reacting to the tribunal judgment, said he and members of the APC were not satisfied with the judgment. 

He said he had already directed his lawyer to thoroughly study the tribunal judgment, after which he would file an appeal at the election appeal tribunal.

“We still have confidence in the judiciary and I am very confident that the appeal tribunal shall reverse that judgment by the election tribunal which dismissed my petition, “ he said.

The APC candidate called on his supporters to be prayerful and continue to remain law abiding to all constituted authorities, saying justice shall prevail at the appeal tribunal.
