A married woman, Aisha Sani, has been arrested in Bauchi by a vigilante group, Garu Security Personnel, for alleged theft of an eight-year-old boy from Giade Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

The suspect told reporters yesterday in Bauchi that she sneaked into their neighborhood and stole the boy but ran out of luck when the boy raised alarm that she was not his mother which attracted security personnel and she was arrested.

She said she wanted to sell the boy to raise money to buy household items after losing her own in an inferno.

The suspect, who claimed to be an orphan, appealed for leniency.

Leader of the vigilante group, Aliyu Ibrahim said one of their men who was on patrol duty at Fadaman Mada saw the boy crying and when they asked the boy, he said the suspect was not his mother, which she (suspect) also admitted.

He said the suspect would be handed over to the police for further action.

When contacted, the spokesman of the police in the state, DSP Kamal Datti Abubakar, said he was not in town but the police would brief the press later.
