An Isolo chief magistrate court in Lagos has sentenced a 28-year-old man, Chibuike Sunday, to six months imprisonment after it found him guilty of stealing.

Sunday, who was charged before the court with stealing footwear from a store at the Cele bus stop area of the Oshodi-Mile 2 expressway, Lagos, had confessed to the court how he had earlier sold a megaphone that he stole from a church for N15,000.

The convict said that he stole the megaphone when he purportedly went for deliverance in the church, which is located at the same Cele bus stop area.

Sunday said when he went to the church for prayers, the presiding pastor told him he needed deliverance, to which he agreed.

After the deliverance session, he added, he saw the megaphone and decided to steal it.

Sunday pleaded guilty to stealing the footwear, saying that wouldn’t be the first time he would be stealing as he had once stolen megaphone in a church.

He said he sold the footwear for N15,000 and sent part of the money to his family in a village in Ebonyi State, where he hails from.

The prosecutor, Inspector Oje Uagbale, told the court that from Sunday’s confessional statement, it was clear he was a habitual criminal that was unlikely to change.

Uagbale asked the court to sentence the accused accordingly to serve as deterrent.

The presiding magistrate, Mrs O.A. Teluwo, found Sunday guilty as charged and sentenced him to six months without an option of fine.
