A 22-year-old man, Yusuf Quadri, arrested while posing as a military man, has confessed using the uniform to pass through checkpoints in Lagos.

Yusuf Quadri, from Ogun State, who is a tricycle operator, was arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), a unit of the Lagos State Police Command.

He was arrested during a stop-and-search by RRS officers while riding a commercial tricycle along Airport Road.

Quadri, when stopped by the police, it was gathered, told the officers he was a military officer. However, the police established that he was impersonating after probing further. It was gathered that Quadri, a primary school certificate holder, disclosed during interrogation that he stole the military uniform of a newly promoted officer.

He added that he used the uniform to take a photograph, which he subsequently converted to an identity card.

The suspect further told the police that he made use of his military photograph and outfit to bypass security operatives, local government and LASTMA officials that might attempt to arrest him whenever he was on the wrong side of the law.

The military uniform was recovered from the suspect’s home.
