‘I want to divorce my husband for lack of love’

A middle-aged woman, Mrs Joyce Kolawole, yesterday told a customary court sitting in the Mapo area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, that she wanted her marriage dissolved for lack of love from her husband.

Mrs Kolawole said that though her husband had been responsible for her feeding and that of their children, he had severally told her to leave his house.

Relating to the court her experience in the marriage, she said, "We got married in 2002 and God has blessed our marriage with two children. He still gives us money for feeding and takes care of our health when health issues arise, but we don’t do things together again. The two children are with me. There is no love between us again. He had said it severally that he does not want me again."

Eko Trust learnt that the husband, who was not present at the court yesterday, had told the court at one of its hearings that he was ready to accept the court judgment on the crisis with his wife.

The president of the court, Chief Ademola Odunade, ruled that the couple should be separated since Kolawole had severally told her to leave his home.

Odunade said the woman should take possession of their two children. He also ordered that the man should pay the woman the sum of N6,000 monthly and care for the school fees and health bills of the children.

The court president said, "Since love is the pillar of marriage and you both agree that there is no love between you again, then you cease to be husband and wife."
