Overseer of the Citadel Global Church, Pastor Tunde Bakare, on Tuesday reiterated his ambition to become the president of Nigeria.
He said if given the opportunity, he would like to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.
Bakare who was Buhari’s running mate when he contested on the platform of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in 2011, was speaking with newsmen in Lagos.
The clergyman, who clocks 66 today (November 11), advocated the reinvention of a new Nigeria where selflessness will be the driving force for nation-building.
Daily Trust reports that Bakare had consistently declared his intention to rule the country but he has not stated under which platform he would contest. He is presently not a member of any political party.
Asked whether he still has ambition, he said, “There is something called destiny. I am not one to hide under the umbrella of one finger and make ambition look like vision, I do not camouflage.
“It is not a matter of life and death, but you can write it down, as the Lord lives, and as I am given opportunity, the day will come like Joe Biden that I will be the president of Nigeria.”
Speaking further, Bakare also supported the move to regulate the conduct on social media because of the danger of fake news.
Bakare, who is the Advisory Council Chairman of Royal Commonwealth Society, said there was the need to curtail the excesses on social media, especially fake news without being “draconian.”
“But we cannot be draconian, we are not going back to Decree 4, we must do things decently and orderly; listen to the people and formulate laws that will be beneficial to all of us,” he added.
