A 23-year-old man arrested by the police in Katsina for attempting to kill his former girlfriend has said he wanted to kill her because she jilted him.

The suspect, Abubakar Sule, told newsmen that his former girlfriend, Aisha Dikko, 21, whom he had dated for the past five years jilted him and started seeing someone else.

He said Aisha told him she was getting married to someone else and he felt she had been deceiving him all the while which caused him to attempt killing her.

Speaking on the matter, the Commissioner of Police, Besen Gwana, said on December 21, the command arrested Sule who was alleged to have taken his girlfriend, Dikko, from Charanchi on a motor bike into a bush at Tamawa village, in Kurfi LGA of Katsina State where he attacked her with a knife and inflicted serious injuries on her.

Gwana said, the suspect then abandoned the bleeding body in the bush thinking that she was dead. 

The “victim was later found by a Good Samaritan and rushed to the General Hospital Kurfi. She is currently on admission and responding to treatment. Consequently, the suspect was traced and apprehended,” he said

He has since confessed and will soon be charged with attempted culpable homicide.
