Reacting to a report on his encounter with the lecturers at the university on Monday, Sambo said his responses were not properly captured in the Daily Trust report of the event and that he was not expecting the dons to praise the present administration.
Sambo said in a statement by his media aide Umar Sani that,  “Contrary to the insinuation by your medium, the vice president was aware that he was speaking to an academic  community and was  not in any way expecting either praise singing or sycophancy, therefore, for your paper to conclude that there is perception of praise singing was a mere misconception.”
He said Professor Kabiru Ahmed, who spoke for pensioners claimed that the last time the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) released funds for pensioners was nine months ago but that immediately after his question the vice chancellor noted that Prof. Kabiru  was a fully employed staff of the institution.
“The vice president doubted the claim of the CBN being responsible  for the disbursement of pensions as opposed to  the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, he however, promised to look into the matter,” he said.
Sani said the vice president in his response noted that in the beginning they were  faced with the challenge of acquiring military hardware and equipment and that Nigerians were aware of their predicament in their efforts  to source for the equipment but immediately after the equipment were acquired our military have lived up to expectation and that the war on terror is now almost over.
On the fall of the naira, he said the vice president, while responding  noted that the economy of the country was substantially an oil dependent one and that it accounted for why they are making efforts on diversification.
He said on the issue of election, the vice president stated that he met Prof Jega, only for the first time when he came to the council to defend his budget and that “Mr. President and himself never met Jega before then and were not interested in meeting him so as to allow him  discharge his duties equitably.”
