The minister of sports who doubles as the president of the Tennis Federation is also the Vice-President of Confederation of African Tennis, CAT, and beginning from October 11, he will be the Chairman of ministers of sports in Africa.

Consequently, his critics have been of the view that the minister of sports may be bitting off more than he chew as they argue that occupying such exalted and challenging offices will not give him the time to concentrate on developing Nigeria sports.

However, while interacting with sports journalists in Abuja yesterday, Ekeji said taking into consideration the pitiable state of the nation’s sports, Ndanusa is the most qualified for the position.

He said the present Nigeria Olympics Committee over the years has failed to live up to the expectations of Nigerians and only a dynamic and versatile sports administrator like the present minister of sports that can effect the necessary changes.

Ekeji maintained that Ndanusa has not told anyone that he is interested in the position but even without saying it, he is the most eligible and suitable for the position.

The minister has not said he wants to be NOC president. If he does, I will personally encourage him to do so. He is qualified to run and he is the most eligible for that position”

According to Ekeji, Ndanudsa should not be stopped from contesting for the position simply because he is the minister of sports.

He argued that if he emerges the helmsman of the committee, the minister of sports will be very effective because he wields a lot of influence and can walk up to President Yar’Adua, and the IOC president to get things done when necessary.

Ekeji decribed Ndanusa as a rare gift to the country and must be utilized maximally saying  those who feel the minister’s hands are filled up should remember that he can delegate responsibilities when necessary.
