The chairmanship candidate of All Progressive Congress (APC) for Isa local government area of Sokoto state, Colonel Garba Moyi (rtd) has promised to end cattle rustling in the area if elected.
Moyi, in an interview with Kano Chronicle said he had developed a well articulated plan to checkmate the menace and maintained that soldiers and police alone could not end the problems. Part of the plan was to employ the services of local hunters who were conversant with the area and possibly know the hide outs of the criminals, he explained.
“The posting of the military and the police to the area can only remedy the situation but will not deter the rustlers. The only way to deter them is to employ the services of our hunters, who know the nooks and crannies of the area, live with cattle herdsmen and know the hideouts of the rustlers. They can secure the areas if given opportunity,” he said.
He added that the hunters would be adequately trained, provided with monthly allowances and other logistics and then task them to stop the menace.
“I assure you, by the Grace of God this issue will become history,” he maintained.
Garba who voluntarily retired from service as Military Liaison Officer in charge of British Training Team on January, 10, 2015 said that he decided to join the race because of his love to his people and the development of the area.
He promised to end thuggery, youth restiveness, injustice and correct all the anomalies in the administration of the area in the recent past as well as unite his people.
He also pledged to support the state government in its effort todiversify the economy in the midst of shrinking allocation from the federation account occasioned by the falling price of crude oil at the international market.
