The Governor of Anambra State Chief Willie Obiano has reassured his unending commitment towards the implementation of the new minimum wage.
He also said his administration will commence the payment of the national minimum wage immediately,the National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission NSIWC release template for payment.
According to the governor, he wants wait till the NSIWC releases template for payment to avoid creating problems.
He also said that his administration was ready to offer better opportunities that would promote welfare of workers in the state.
The governor gave the reassurance, during the 2019 Workers’ Day celebration, which took place at Ekwueme Square, Awka.
This year May Day celebration has the theme, “Another 100 years of struggle for Jobs, Dignity and Social Justice in Nigeria”
“I have also formally declared the intention of my administration to pay the newly approved minimum wage in Anambra State. And I will begin the implementation once the guidelines for the payment of the minimum wage are released by the Federal Government.
“Ndi Anambra, permit me to mention that my administration has been fair to Anambra workers. We have never failed to pay salaries, come rain come shine.”
“We have cleared outstanding pensions that had accumulated for over 25 years, from the inception of our state. We have continued to give out bags of rice to workers to give everyone a sense of belonging during Christmas seasons. ”
“The Mass Transit buses we provided have made life more bearable to our workers. And in the middle of all these, we are carrying out the renovation of our secretariat to give it a proper facelift.” The governor added.
He called on workers to reciprocate the state government gestures by being honest, loyal and dedicated to duties.
