Governor Ayodele Fayose has said that he will not seek any political office after leaving office in 2019.
The governor also said that his persistent comments on national issues are not to condemn but to help grow democracy in the country.
The governor stated these while responding to a statement by the House of Assembly, declaring him, “leader of opposition and governor of governors” in the country.
The governor, who clocks 55 this weekend, described the Assembly’s statement as “their personal opinion”, which he said they were entitled to.
He said: “I don’t see that as a big deal. You cannot run away from certain challenges; a lot of leaders have been killed or jailed for telling the truth and challenging injustice in the country. Nelson Mandela was jailed, Chief M.K.O Abiola, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, you all knew what happened to such people. I am not afraid to tell the truth; everyday, I plan my exit. Nobody can silence me. I am not going to the Senate after my exit like some former governors. I am not going to contest any political office or beg for any appointment.”
