The alumni of Mass Communication Department, The Polytechnic Ibadan have launched an industry-based event, to be known as Communication Festival (COMMFEST).
According to the Coordinator, Oladotun Lawrence and Secretary, Abolaji Adebayo, COMMFEST is expected to serve as a recognition event, aimed at rewarding uncelebrated achievers in the communication sector.
It was an initiative of the 2003/2004 set of Mass Communication Department of The Polytechnic Ibadan, Adeseun Ogundoyin Campus, Eruwa now the Ibarapa Polytechnic, Eruwa.
“The aim of the festival is to celebrate professionals and academics in the field of mass communication cutting across print, broadcast and online journalism, public relations, advertising and book publishing, among others, having observed that over the years, practitioners in the mass communication fields especially those in academics were rarely celebrated.
“Thus, we have organised this platform where they will be celebrated, as well as recognised. As an annual event, the programme is expected to serve as a convergence for all stakeholders including students of mass communication across the country,” the organisers said.
The Head, Mass Communication Department, The Ibarapa Polytechnic, Elder Solomon Adedokun, was quoted to have described the initiative as “one that would put smiles on the faces of communication scholars who have long been left in the doldrums.”
