Members of the IBB International Golf and Country Club will face enhanced security protocols and profiling procedures upon the club’s reopening, as part of sweeping reforms to restore discipline and prestige to the club.
Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT), made this known during the formal inauguration of the club’s Interim Management Committee (IMC) in Abuja.
She charged the newly appointed team to immediately begin the process of rebranding and repositioning the club for excellence.
“When the IBB International Golf & Country Club is eventually opened, members will have to go through profiling and security checks which will entail each member signing an undertaking that they will leave the club as they found it without any rancour,” Dongban-Mensem declared.
The inauguration comes in the wake of administrative instability at the club, which led to the postponement of its April 26 Annual General Meeting (AGM). To address this, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, approved the appointment of a ten-member IMC chaired by Dr. Peter Deshi to oversee the club’s affairs.
The BoT Chairman underscored the need for unity and professionalism as the club undergoes major changes.
“It is very important to mention at this point that there will be a total facelift of the club and its activities. It is also apt to mention that the golf course and the range will now be professionally maintained,” she said.
Dongban-Mensem also acknowledged the unwavering support of the FCT Minister, adding, “With the support which we are getting from the Honourable Minister of FCT, His Excellency Barrister Nyesom Wike, this Board of Trustees will ensure IBB Golf Club achieves its international standard, regains its prestigious status, and becomes a reference point for other golf courses in the world.”
Dr. Peter Deshi, speaking on behalf of the IMC, pledged full cooperation with the BoT in revitalising the club and restoring its integrity.
Other members of the IMC include Barr. Yomi Oyelola (Secretary), Otunba Gbenga Elegbeleye, Arc. Nanwor Mamven, Mrs. Ekanem Ekwueme, Arc. Arabi Bello, Lawan Aboki, Okey Nnaedozie, Fred Otobo, and Julius Fadairo.
