A Sokoto politician, Buhari Sidi Attahiru, says Senator Ibrahim Lamido has outperformed other senators from the state.
Sidi who is a card-carrying member of the People Democratic Party (PDP), said this while weighing in on the controversial statement made by the factional Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
The party chairman, who is believed to be loyal to Senator Aliyu Wamakko, had reportedly questioned Senator Lamido’s indigene status, alleging that he is not a native of Sokoto.
Reacting, Sidi condemned the remarks, which he said was driven by political envy.
He defended Lamido’s heritage, noting that the senator is a descendant of Sheikh Usmanu Danfodiyo, the founder of the Sokoto Caliphate.
He added that some of Lamido’s ancestors had served as “Sultans of Sokoto”.
“I challenge Senator Wamakko to name at least four of his forefathers and provide an account of how they came to settle in this part of the country. If he can do so, I will publicly renounce my membership of PDP and join Wamakko’s APC camp,” Sidi said.
He further accused political opponents of trying to discredit Senator Lamido’s contributions due to his rising profile and performance.
“Everyone can see the kind of representation Senator Lamido is providing, particularly in the area of infrastructure, human capital development and security as eastern Sokoto is the worst hit by banditry. He has outperformed other senators from the state,” he said.
Sidi said although he is not from the eastern part of Sokoto and not a member of the ruling APC, he was impressed by Lamido’s commitment to his constituents and the impact of his projects.
“I call on the APC National Leadership, stakeholders, and all peace-loving members of their party to take immediate steps to caution individuals like Isa Sadiq Achida, whose utterances continue to threaten the peace and unity in Sokoto State.”
“Personal vendetta and bitterness should not be allowed to dictate the tone and direction of their political engagements. Leadership demands maturity, restraint, and respect for due process—not unfounded accusations rooted in desperation.
“In the spirit of transparency and fairness, we challenge supporters of Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, under whose shadow Mr. Achida appears to be operating, to also publicly declare the Senator’s ancestral origins as we have done for Senator Lamido. If political credibility is now to be measured by ancestral lineage, then let all sides submit to the same scrutiny.”
When contacted Senator Wamakko’s media aide Bashar Abubakar, stated that the senator had no involvement in the ongoing disagreement and should not be dragged into the matter.
“This is a childish quarrel that Senator Wamakko should not be involved in. It is a dispute between Isa Sadiq Achida and Senator Lamido. The senator should not be brought into it, so we have nothing to say,” Abubakar said
