Ibrahim Pelumi Lasisi, a Sheffield-based full-stack engineer, has been recognised as Systems and Automation Innovator of the Year at the Crest Africa Awards for building an AI-powered platform designed to reduce barriers in job access across Africa.

The recognition highlights Lasisi’s work in addressing employment access challenges through widely adopted digital tools. His platform, WorqNow, is designed to streamline job discovery by integrating listings from multiple sources and delivering them directly to users through familiar communication channels.

The system enables users to receive tailored job recommendations, generate CVs, and automate parts of the application process without requiring additional applications or account registrations. This approach reduces reliance on conventional job platforms, which often require higher data usage and fragmented engagement across multiple services.

Speaking on the motivation behind the platform, Lasisi said the idea was shaped by observing persistent challenges faced by job seekers, particularly delays in employer responses and the complexity of managing multiple applications.

WorqNow incorporates natural language processing to personalise job recommendations and operates on cloud-based infrastructure designed to function efficiently in low-bandwidth environments.

Lasisi’s development approach prioritises accessibility and usability, focusing on reducing barriers for users with limited internet access, constrained device storage, or reliance on mobile-first communication tools.

Beyond WorqNow, his work includes the development of software-as-a-service platforms, artificial intelligence integrations, and real-time communication systems deployed across various markets.

The award reflects a broader shift toward integrating artificial intelligence with everyday communication systems to expand access to digital services, particularly in regions where traditional infrastructure remains limited.
