The Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) and the Al-Habibiyyah Islamic Society (AIS) have called for the incorporation of children and adolescents into the nation’s anti-corruption efforts to boost the effects of measures to win the war.
The made the call on Saturday in Abuja at a symposium for school children to mark the 2023 World Anti-Corruption Day, organised by Al-Habibiyyah and MacArthur Foundation, themed, ‘Uniting the Youths for Accountability and Transparency’.
Speaking at the event, an Anti-Corruption Commissioner at the ICPC, Mr Hassan Salihu, also said that Nigeria is making progress in anti-corruption efforts, with lots of seizures and prevention of corruption, apart from the enlightenment of anti-corruption campaigns.
“It is important for us to encourage our children and tell them what corruption has done to the countrycountry and the danger it poses to the socio-economic development of this country. This is based on general principle of enjoining the good and forbidden the evil.
“It is important to build the youths and future generations to oppose corruption by moulding their minds to see anti-corruption efforts as collective and in the interest of their well-being and the nation,” Salihu said.
Speaking earlier, the Executive Director and National Chief Imam of the society, Sheik Fuad Adeyemi, said that winning the anti-corruption war need the involvement and direct inputs of the children and youths generally.
He also said that those who changed the world for the better, including the first 11 that volunteered to spread the message of Islam, show that the youths should not wait to have larger numbers to drive the anti-corruption efforts, when few can start and the rest would join to win the anti-corruption war for national development.
He also cited some case including that of Prophet Said (David) and his son, Prophet Sulaiman (Solomon) when the later (Sulaiman) used to assist his father in some jurisprudence despite his age.
