The Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has held the first edition of its national anti-corruption debate competition for senior secondary students from select schools in Kogi State.

Chairman of ICPC, Mr Ekpo Nta, in an address at the event in Lokoja said the competition was designed to engage the youth actively in the anti-corruption crusade and stimulate academic discourse that provides answers to issues of corruption from the youth’s perspective.

The ICPC chairman, who was represented by Mr Kingsley Obi,  said lack of integrity, transparency and accountability have remained “huge impediment” to actualising set goals meant for the advancement of the youth and the security of their future, hence the need to engage them in the fight against corruption from the secondary school level.” 

Obi said the national anti-corruption debate competition would hold across the six geo-political zones of the country annually. Zonal Chairman, ICPC, North Central, Barrister Chilezie Ogwuegbu, urged the participants to imbibe the virtues of integrity at times.

At the end of the three stages of the competition, GSSS Lokoja won first position while GSSS Dekina came second while Freedom Faith Secondary School, Adankolo and GGSS Idah emerged third and fourth runners-up respectively.
