The Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), Kaduna office, has inaugurated 30 anti-corruption clubs in schools within the Kaduna metropolis.

The aim of the clubs, according to the commission, is to catch and educate the younger generations at the earlier stage of their lives.

Speaking at the inauguration at Unguwar Rimi College Kaduna, its state Resident Commissioner, Prince Hassan Mohammed, said the commission commenced the inauguration of anti-corruption clubs and vanguards in 2003.

According to him, from 2003 to date, the commission has established over 2000 clubs.

He explained that the commission engaged members of the clubs and vanguards in line with the guidelines of their establishment, on desensitization activities, as well as essay writing, poetry, recitations, debate and quiz competitions, among others.

He said such competitions are open to all schools with anti-corruption clubs.

The resident commissioner further explained that ICPC enjoys a cordial relationship with the state’s Ministry of Education through its public education outreach initiatives, such as the formation of anti-corruption clubs in secondary schools and the introduction of the national values curriculum for basic education.

In his remarks, the Head of Legal Kaduna ICPC, Barrister Matthew Mamman, said members of the clubs are now ICPC ambassadors in their respective schools.

He urged the students to take the anti-corruption club activities very seriously in their schools.
