The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has handed over a state-of-the-art 80-bed paediatric complex to the Yobe State Government.
The facility, located at the Yobe State Specialist Hospital in Damaturu, was constructed for N800 million.
The ultra-modern complex is designed to provide specialised paediatric care and enhance maternal and child health services across the state. It is equipped with advanced amenities, including a paediatric pharmacy, kitchen, laundry, and a child-friendly play area, creating a holistic, supportive environment for young patients.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Mohamedoun Mohamed, Head of the ICRC Sub-Delegation in Damaturu, emphasised the facility’s significance in addressing critical health needs.

“This centre symbolises the life-saving interventions provided to communities grappling with the effects of armed conflict and food insecurity,” he said, noting that the facility will boost access to nutrition services for malnourished children under five and vulnerable mothers.
He added that the centre will offer inpatient care for children suffering from severe acute malnutrition and other medical complications, while serving as a hub for scaling up nutrition and child healthcare services across the state.
Receiving the facility on behalf of Governor Mai Mala Buni, the Yobe State Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Muhammad Lawan Gana, described the project as a major milestone in improving paediatric healthcare in the state.
