The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN) has called on the National Assembly to pass the Chartered Governance Institute of Nigeria (CGIN) Bill into law.

The bill sponsored by Senator Sarafdeen Abiodun Ali Oyo South in 2024 was aimed at renaming the institute to Chartered Governance Institute of Nigeria (CGIN).

The institute’s president, Uto Ukpanah during a media parley to highlight her 100 days in office noted that her administration has intensified advocacy to ensure the passage of the bill into law.

She emphasized on the importance of passing the CGIN bill, saying the name will reflect the modern best practices of the profession.

“Once passed into law, this will not only reposition the Institute but also redefine the professional identity of our members, expanding our mandate beyond traditional secretarial practice to embrace the broader dimensions of governance practice.

“This development will open fresh vistas of recognition, relevance, and influence for our members across all sectors. The Governing Council is fully committed to seeing this process through, working hand-in-hand with relevant stakeholders to achieve speedy passage and gazetting,” she said.

She reeled out the progress of the national secretariat building project, expressing commitment to complete it within the 36 months’ time frame.

“Our vision is to maintain this momentum and deliver the project in record time, ideally less than the 36 months project timeline. This building is not just a structure; it is a symbol of our collective aspiration, our permanence, and our institutional pride,” she said.

She, however, called for financial support from both individuals and corporate organisations.

“However, we cannot achieve this milestone alone. We therefore renew our passionate appeal to all our members, corporate partners, prospective donors and friends of ICSAN to join hands with us by contributing financially or in kind to ensure early completion,” she said.
