ICT has improved Osun’s IGR – Aregbesola

Aregbesola who spoke at the 2013 annual Nigerian Telecom Development Lecture (NITDEL) titled “ICT, A Tool for Societal Development” said Osun state is a testimony of the role of ICT in governance.
According to him, ICT has always served as a veritable tool of achieving success right from the crisis that eroded the election which brought him into the office as governor of the state.
The lecture was organised by the Nigerian Telecomnews as a platform for open discuss by stakeholders and students on how to accelerate ICT opportunities in nation building.
The governor said since his administration started using ICT in the state for all activities, the Osun internal generated revenue (IGR) now stood at N1.6bn per month compared to 300m the state was generating before he came into the office adding that, “we have no issue of ghost workers all thanks to ICT.”
He said, “ICT is the mirror image of life, it reflects every aspect of life, it has great potentials. Limitations in thinking limits the use of ICT. There is no limit to what ICT can do in a country, the introduction of GSM is a message on what ICT can do.”
The governor also made reference to the ICT enhancement project of boosting learning process in the state, Opon-Imo (Tablet of Knowledge) which enables students to access reading materials on the go.
He said the state has distributed over 150,000 units of Opon-Imo (Tablet of Knowledge) to students within the state as a way of facilitating learning process through ICT describing the project as a true testimony of how ICT can to better the lots of people.
