Idah poly gets N150m for research

The Federal Polytechnic, Idah, has received over N150 million from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) to improve research output.

Rector, Dr David Danjuma Baba, who disclosed this during the 24th combined convocation ceremony, said the management considered research and development as crucial in the promotion of science and technology in the country.

“To achieve this, management has put in place machinery to encourage and support research works and new technological innovations among staff and students as a means of contributing to the technological needs of our country.

“To this end, and in collaboration with TETfund, the institution has received over N100 million as research funds from TETFund while about fifty research proposals have been submitted to the fund for consideration and approval.

“In addition, the institution has attracted research grant for the fabrication of oil palm extractor, plantain slasher, solar powered refrigerator and cashew juice extractor, among others.

“Furthermore, we have prioritized our needs to embrace student-centred projects which will encourage research, teaching and learning. Consequently, equipment worth N150 million through TETfund intervention have been delivered to some departments in school of engineering, technology and environmental studies”, he said.
