At least six people were killed and seven others injured after an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded along the Anka–Bagega road in Zamfara State.

The victims were travelling from Anka to Bagega when the device, suspected to have been planted by bandits, detonated.

An eyewitness, Malam Shu’aibu, who assisted in rescuing victims, said the explosion occurred shortly after the vehicle passed over the device.

“The situation is terrible. Six people died instantly while seven others sustained various degrees of injuries,” he said.

He said the injured victims were evacuated to the General Hospital in Anka for treatment.

Confirming the incident in a statement posted on its social media platform, the Nigerian Army said the explosion was caused by explosives planted by bandits along the road.

The military also expressed concern over what it described as the growing use of explosive devices by bandit groups operating in the North-West.
