It was the one thing he said with emphasis, suggesting that it was the passage of the speech he most believed in. Actually it sent the opposite message; it was the most unbelieved sentence in his whole 20 minute speech.
What even brought this talk about personal interest? Is this the first time that Nigeria is having a conference to discuss its constitution and other matters? Did you ever hear any convener say he had no personal agenda for the conference? When the British convened two constitutional conferences in London in the 1950s, did you ever hear the Secretary of State for the Colonies say Her Majesty the Queen had no personal interest in the outcome?
When General Murtala Mohamed inaugurated the Constitution Drafting Committee [CDC] in 1975 and when General Obasanjo inaugurated the Constituent Assembly [CA] in 1977, did you hear anyone of them say he had no personal interest in the agenda? Even the dribbling IBB, when he inaugurated a Constitution Review Committee in 1988, did you hear him say that? Or even the dark-goggled General Sani Abacha when he inaugurated the Constitutional Conference in 1994?
So you, if it is true that you have no personal interest in convening a conference stacked up with your chosen friends at very short notice and with less than a year to general elections, why did you mention it?
