The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has inaugurated 169 officers of the newly established Special Intervention Squad (SIS) aimed at tackling kidnapping and banditry across Nigeria.
The ceremony took place on Monday at the Police Mobile Force Training College on Ende Hills in Nasarawa Eggon LGA of Nasarawa State.
Speaking at the event, Mr Egbetokun described the SIS as a major advancement in the police force’s operational strategy, incorporating global best practices for effective law enforcement.
He stressed that the unit was designed to address critical gaps in the current policing system by providing a robust mechanism for rapid response and high-impact intervention.

He said, “This occasion marks a significant milestone in our quest for a safer Nigeria. It stands as a testament to our commitment to strengthening national security and protecting every Nigerian citizen.
“The Special Intervention Squad was created to confront pressing challenges such as kidnapping, banditry and other violent crimes that have caused fear and disruption across our nation.”
The IG highlighted the comprehensive training the officers underwent which covered advanced tactical operations, intelligence gathering, crisis negotiation and community engagement.
