A lecturer in the Department of Political Science, University of Abuja, Dr Farouk Bibi-Farouk, yesterday took a swipe at a former governor of Enugu State, Okwesiliezi Nwodo, for saying Igbos would join Nnamdi Kanu to fight for Biafra if the South East doesn’t get the presidency in 2023.

Bibi-Farouk, who described the comment as a ‘misstep’ in a statement made available to newsmen, noted that such remarks have driven away many people that were sympathetic to the Igbos, adding that the region may have already lost the ticket.

“The eminent former governor has just made a misstep in identifying with the seditious and derogative, pedestrian activities of the infamous Nnamdi Kanu of IPOB notoriety,” he said.

According to him, Nwodo, a former national chairman of the PDP, as a respected and well-cultured Nigerian politician shouldn’t have associated himself with the IPOB leader, whose previous activities in agitating for Biafra he decried.

The academic stated: “If the statement of Okwesiliezi Nwodo that Ndigbo would join Kanu to fight for Biafra if South East does not get the presidency in 2023 as carried in the press recently is correct, then I think the South East has already lost the ticket.

“The people of Nigeria have made it abundantly clear that they can choose or accept any Nigerian to lead them but that they cannot be ruled through blackmail, threats and intimidation.

“The golden rule is once you threaten and blackmail, then you habour an anti-Nigerian agenda, a plan to dominate in perpetuity, to punish others for real or misconceived misconceptions,” he stated.
