Igede community celebrates yam festival in Kano

People of Igede community, Benue state residing in Kano have celebrated their new yam festival in a unique way with series of activities to make the day a memorable one. 

The celebration took place on Sunday September 3, 2017.

The president of the Igede association in the state, Mr Sunday Shah Ode,  said even though they were not in the village, they celebrated the new yam festival in Kano to promote their rich cultural heritage, that was why they invited people to come and witness what the Igede people are known for.

Mr Adagba Samuel Ibibi said that the annual event was aimed portraying the culture of the Igede community. 

He said the reason for the festival was to thank God for the bumper harvest they witnessed thisn year.t

Paddy Edu, the secretary of Igede association, said they set aside first week of September for the annual festival. 

He therfore advised other ethnic groups in the country to always respect and protect their cultures.
