The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun has embraced digital policing initiative to stem crimes and criminalities in the country ,as he commissioned smart politics station in Ekirin-adde in Ijumu local government in kogi state.
The smart police station that was funded by Nigeria Police Trust Fund under its special intervention project was commissioned by the kogi state governor, Usman Ahmed Ododo in a fanfare celebration yesterday.
The IG who was represented by Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) zone 8 ,Abubakar Zubairu, reaffirmed that the fight against insecurity should not be left for security agencies alone,
He called on Nigerians to support the new digital approach in the fight against insecurity in the country , for a relatively crime society where business thrives and people are allowed to move freely without fears of molestation in any form.
Egbetokun said the Nigerian police will rnot est on its oars in the battle against insecurity, stressing that it will continue to provide infrastructure and provide modern equipment to enhance the capacity of the operatives for adequate security of life and property of the citizens.
“I am passionate about digital policing in the country for effective service delivery of the operatives of Nigeria Police ; and my vision is to see that we have police that are digitally inclined.
“This multi millions funded edifice will ensure that the fight against insecurity in Ekinrin-Adde community and the entire Ijumu local government area is guaranteed.
“I enjoined you all to make maximum use of the equipment in the station to keep the community and local government safe from attack of criminals”, he said.
He therefore urged the police officers saddled with the responsibility of working in the new station to maintain the edifice to serve the entire region effectively .
In his remarks, governor Ahmed Ododo described the PTF Special Intervention Project as a clear statement of safety for the people of Ijumu and its environs.
He commended the executive secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, Femi Mohammed Sheidu for his resilience in ensuring that the station was completed as scheduled.
While the governor assured of continue support for the police authorities , he urged citizens to collaborate with security agencies in its war against insecurity in the country .
“Let us build a synergy that puts fear in the hearts of criminals and confidence in the hearts of our citizens. When we get the cooperation of the people, insecurity will be a thing of the past”, he said.
However, the governor cautioned politicians to desist from politicizing the issue of insecurity in the society , calling for the support in the fight against crimes and criminalities in the interest of peace in the communities in the country .
Earlier, in his address , the Executive Secretary, Nigeria Police Trust Fund, Femi
Mohammed Sheidu described the project as a milestone in the journey of reform, revitalisation, and modernisation of the police force in the country.
Like governor Ododo, the Executive Secretary expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment to reforming and repositioning of the Nigeria Police Force in the war against insecurity in the country .
Sheidu stressed further that the infrastructure in place is designed to strengthen police presence in Ekinrin-Adde community and its environs in order to enhance public trust, operational capacity, and officers welfare.
“This project speaks to our collective desire to build a stronger, smarter, and more community oriented police force in the nation.
“The facility we are commissioning today is not just a building, it is a comprehensive law enforcement center designed to meet the challenges of 21st-century policing”, he said .
The Smart Divisional Police Headquarters at Ekirin-adde is fitted with Protective installations and perimeter security, gatehouse, CCTV surveillance, and a sentry post solar inverter power solutions to ensure uninterrupted operations, among others.
