The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Solomon Arase has ordered all police formations in the country to immediately stop the use of commercial vehicles for police patrols and operations.
A statement yesterday by police spokesperson acting Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Olabisi Kolawole said the IGP directive also stopped the use of vehicles painted in known state’s commercial colours for police operations.
ACP Kolawole added that the directive was contained in a circular issued to all police formations and commands nationwide.
“The circular states that directives are due to enormous negative consequences associated with such practices as complained by members of the public,” the police statement said.
The police spokesperson further said the IGP warned that abuse of this order by any police unit will attract severe sanctions.
