The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, yesterday directed the Ebonyi State Command to immediately hand over one of its personnel, Corporal Matthew Isaac, for punishment over what was described as ‘unruly conduct’.

Baba, in a statement issued in Abuja by the Force spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the officer, who was caught in a viral video singing, dancing and brandishing a rifle in praise of a particular confraternity (cult group) will be dealt with accordingly.

The police chief specifically directed the commissioner of police in charge of the state to detail the Command’s OC Provost to hand over the erring officer to the Force Provost Marshall for necessary disciplinary actions.

He explained that the act of the officer in question was clearly calculated to portray the Nigeria Police Force negatively, adding that it was a discreditable conduct in line with the provisions of the First Schedule to Regulation 370 of the Police Regulations.

He added, “His actions equally violated the provisions of the NPF Social Media Policy (SMP), penal laws, and other extant laws regulating the conduct and discipline of all Police officers.”

The IGP, however, warned other officers to ensure total compliance with the laws guiding the Force, stressing that any breach would be severely sanctioned.
