The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has directed the Katsina State Police Command to intensify security around schools across the state as part of efforts to safeguard students, teachers and educational facilities from security threats.
The directive was delivered by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) in charge of Finance and Administration, Sulaiman Abdul, during a two-day operational visit to Katsina State.
Speaking during the tour, the DIG said the police command had been mandated to strengthen surveillance, increase patrols around schools, enhance intelligence gathering and sustain a visible security presence at educational institutions across the state.
He explained that the initiative was designed to deter criminal activities, improve emergency response capabilities and ensure that schools remain safe environments for learning and academic development.
Similarly, as part of the assessment exercise, DIG Abdul visited the Police Children School and the Government Girls Technical and Commercial College in Charanchi Local Government Area, where he evaluated existing security arrangements and infrastructure.
During the inspection, the DIG examined perimeter fencing, entry and exit points, security posts and the deployment of police personnel assigned to protect the schools.
The DIG also held separate meetings with school administrators and management teams to obtain first-hand information on security concerns and challenges facing the institutions.
The discussions also focused on measures to improve school safety, strengthen collaboration between educational authorities and security agencies, as well as enhance preparedness against potential threats.
He urged school managements to enforce stricter access-control procedures, maintain constant vigilance and promptly report any suspicious movements or activities within and around their premises to security agencies.
While reaffirming the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force, the DIG revealed that the Nigerian police is committed to protecting schools and ensuring that students and teachers can carry out their activities without fear.
